Professor Robed Amin has been removed from his position as the acting director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The role has now been temporarily assigned to Professor Nazmul Hossain, director general of the Directorate General of Medical Education, who will take on the additional responsibility of overseeing the DGHS.

The announcement was made in an official order from the Ministry of Health on Thursday afternoon.

On August 18, the contract-based appointment of the previous director general, Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam, was terminated, and Robed Amin was appointed as the acting director general on the same day.

Since his appointment, a faction of doctors and staff, affiliated with the Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh (DAB), had been actively protesting against Robed Amin at the DGHS.

They regularly held demonstrations in front of the office, demanding his removal, which significantly disrupted the activities at the Health Directorate.

Before his temporary appointment as Acting Director General, Professor Dr Md Robed Amin served as the line director of the Non-Communicable Disease Control (NCDC) project within the Health Directorate.
