Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu, a member of the BNP Chairperson's Advisory Council and the party's Rajshahi Division organizing secretary, has been served with a show cause notice over his remark on former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
He has been instructed to submit a written response to the BNP central office in Nayapaltan within the next 24 hours.
According to BNP central office sources, the notice was issued on Saturday.
The source also mentioned that, out of respect for Dulu's significant contributions to the party, the notice was not made public through a press release.
The notice, signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, references a statement made by Dulu on Friday.
In this statement, Dulu reportedly said that "if the pictures and speech of the murderer Hasina are published in TV-magazines, they will be burned."
The statement was published in several media outlets.
Rizvi said that Dulu's comments are completely contrary to the principles and ideals of the BNP. The BNP, a liberal and the largest democratic political party in the country, does not condone occupation or terrorist activities.
For the past 15 to 16 years, BNP leaders, activists, and affiliates have endured severe persecution under the dictatorial government while fighting for democracy. Recently, young students and citizens sacrificed their lives in a bloody movement that toppled the fascist Awami government, igniting a democratic awakening in the country. Dulu's statement has tarnished that movement as well, according to the statement.
Rizvi further emphasized that Dulu's statement was deliberate, intentional, and an attack on the democratic spirit of the BNP.
As a central leader of the BNP, such remarks undermine the party's long-standing struggle for democracy over the past one and a half decades.
"Therefore, you are hereby directed to submit a written explanation to the party's central office in Nayapaltan within the next 24 hours, stating why organizational action should not be taken against you for this statement," the notice said.
