Students, Jamaat-Shibir activists, and other protesters have begun gathering at Shahbagh in the capital from the early morning to prevent Awami League leaders and activists, who were ousted from power by a mass student and public uprising, from carrying out any sabotage around August 15.
Starting from 6am on Thursday, small groups from various parts of the capital have taken positions at Shahbagh and on surrounding footpaths.
On Wednesday, Hasnat Abdullah, one of the coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, called on students and the public to unite to stop Awami League leaders and activists from engaging in terrorism and sabotage around August 15.
The coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement had announced plans to gather at Shahbagh at 10am on Thursday with their four-point demand.
During a visit to Shahbagh around 9am, hundreds of Jamaat-Shibir activists were seen standing in front of the flower market. Another group was holding sporadic marches in front of the museum.
These leaders and activists continued to march in small groups around the Shahbagh intersection.
Some were also seen directing traffic on the roads and inspecting government and private vehicles.
