Chittagong University Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Abu Taher resigned from his post on Sunday night.
He submitted an application to the chancellor
The university's acting registrar, KM Noor Ahmad, confirmed the matter on Monday.
He said that the vice-chancellor is currently in Dhaka, from where he sent the application directly to the chancellor on Sunday. “We were informed of the matter today (Monday). However, no decision has been made yet.”
Professor Abu Taher assumed the position of vice-chancellor at Chittagong University on March 20.
Meanwhile, two pro-vice chancellors of Chittagong University have also resigned.
They are -- Professor Benu Kumar Dey, who is in charge of the Education Department, and Professor Md Sekander Chowdhury, who handles administrative responsibilities.
KM Noor Ahmed confirmed that both submitted their resignations to him on Monday.
"They handed in their resignations this afternoon, effectively relieving themselves of their responsibilities," he said.
Earlier, the principals of all the halls and members of the university's proctorial body resigned in response to demands from anti-discrimination student activists.
