The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) has said that the price list of essential commodities spread on Facebook and other social media is fake.
AHM Shafiquzzaman, director general of the directorate, confirmed the matter on Saturday.
He urged consumers to be cautious about misleading information.
The DG said that a market price list is being circulated on social media regarding the price of various essential commodities which has come to the notice of the directorate.
The government has not fixed the prices of the products described, he added.
Earlier, a price list was spread on Facebook mentioning potato at Tk40, onion at Tk70, beef at Tk650, mutton at Tk800 and broiler chicken at Tk140. In the post, the consumers have also been asked to contact the army if anyone charges them more than the mentioned amount.
