Nahid Islam, a coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, on Sunday urged protesters to continue their sit-in programs at Shahbagh until the government falls.
“Students are prepared for any eventuality. We picked up sticks today. If sticks don’t work, we are ready to take up arms,” he said while addressing protesters at Shahbagh at 3pm on Sunday.
Nahid Islam described the Awami League as terrorists and said they have been deployed on the roads.
“Awami League wants to create a situation of civil war in the country. The country is being driven into a state of civil war,” he added.
"Mobile internet has been shut down again. Broadband internet may also be shut down. Such conspiracies will be of no use this time. Even if the internet is shut down, we will be on the streets," he said.
"Our objectives, goals, and destination are clear. Victory alone is our goal. We are still giving time. If the government continues to resort to violence, we want to let them know that we are looking at the Ganabhaban.”
Addressing Sheikh Hasina, he said: “You have to decide whether you will still resort to violence and bloodshed or resign as per the students' demand.”
"Our one-point demand has been announced. Now the outline of our future Bangladesh is yet to be announced. If we are kidnapped, murdered, or arrested; if there is no one to declare it, you will continue the movement," Nahid continued.
"If my brothers are shot in the chest if any of my sisters are injured, we will not sit idle. Form Protirodh Sangram Committees in every neighbourhood, village, mohalla, and alley. Form resistance wherever we are attacked.”
Nahid Islam said: "We do not accept this government. From now on, the students will lead the country. The announcement of the students is final."
At least 44 people were killed and numerous others injured in a series of deadly clashes that broke out in several parts of the country yesterday centred on the non-cooperation movement under the banner of Students Against Discrimination.
Starting from 6pm on Sunday, the government has imposed a curfew in Dhaka and other divisional cities, district towns and all city corporations, and it will remain in effect until otherwise directed.
A three-day public holiday has also been announced, starting Monday.
