The price of a 12-kilogram liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder for consumers has increased by Tk11, taking the new price to Tk1,377 in August, up from July's Tk1,366.
The new rates were announced by BERC Chairman Md Nurul Amin at a press conference held at the BERC office in Karwan Bazar on Sunday afternoon.
The organization sets the LPG prices monthly.
According to BERC sources, although the import price of LPG remains unchanged, the increase in the price is due to the rising value of the dollar.
Including VAT, the price of LPG has been set at Tk114.79 per kg, up from July's price of Tk113.86 per kg.
This will determine the prices for different sizes of LPG cylinders.
The price of a 12.50 kg LPG cylinder supplied by government companies remains unchanged at Tk690.
The market offers cylinders ranging from 5.5kg to 45kg.
LPG is used not only for household cooking but also in restaurants, transportation, and small to large industrial factories.
More than 99% of this market is controlled by the private sector.
Due to the halt in gas supply, reliance on LPG has increased in industries, hotels, and restaurants, leading to higher prices for food and clothing.
On April 3, the price of a 12kg cylinder was reduced by Tk40 to Tk1,442.
In May, the price was reduced by Tk49 compared to April, setting it at Tk1,393.
Most recently, on June 3, the BERC set the price at Tk1,363, reducing it by Tk30.
