Update : 04 Aug 2024, 11:25 AM

A clash broke out in Dhaka's Science Lab intersection on Sunday morning as protesters gathered to support the non-cooperation movement called for the government's resignation.

Over 50 students took position on the road at 10:25am on Sunday.

On the ground, students gathered on Mirpur Road and halted vehicle traffic. During this time, they chanted various slogans, demanding  Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation.

The movement has called for a nationwide non-cooperation movement on Sunday in support of its one-point demand. Late Saturday night, the movement's coordinator, Asif Mahmud, posted this information on Facebook.

He mentioned that on Sunday at 11am, protests and mass gatherings will be held at important points throughout the capital and the country.

Meanwhile, the blockade has affected the capital's roads, with only rickshaws and CNGs in operation.

Occasionally, when buses were spotted, passengers were seen scrambling to board them.

Commuters going to offices, people with urgent needs, and patients along with their families headed to hospitals are suffering due to the public transport crisis.

From Saturday afternoon, students began assembling in groups at the central Shaheed Minar and its surroundings. Alongside students, parents and people from various professions also joined in support of the quota movement. Many were seen holding placards bearing different slogans.

On Friday night, the anti-discrimination student movement called for Saturday's demonstration and an indefinite non-cooperation movement from Sunday.
