Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Moniruzzaman has said six cases will be filed regarding the attacks on the residence of the vice-chancellor of Begum Rokeya University and several other places.

“Police have shown patience during the ongoing quota reform movement in Rangpur city,” he said after visiting various establishments, including halls at Rokeya University on Wednesday.

He further said: "We have information that some outsiders entered and attacked the vice chancellor's residence and set it on fire. Goods were burnt, and students' residential Bangabandhu Hall was set on fire. Many vehicles were set on fire and attacked and injured the police. The wireless set was burned. A total of six cases will be filed."

The commissioner further said: "We have patiently dealt with the anarchic situation that was created on the university campus and adjoining areas on Tuesday.

We will only say something if any peaceful program is taken today (Wednesday) supporting quota reform. But we will take stern action if any anarchic incident is attempted.”

He said: "After the autopsy, the body of Abu Sayeed was handed over to his relatives. Following the funeral, he was buried."

Meanwhile, the BGB patrols have intensified throughout the city. On the other hand, Ganatantra Mancha has formed a human chain in front of the Rangpur Press Club in protest against the shooting and killing of the student.

On Tuesday, a student was killed at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR), during a clash between police and protesters seeking quota system reform.
