Oman assures to legalize 96,000 Bangladeshi workers

  • Offered to take workers from Bangladesh in 12 categories
  • Dubai requested 3,000 workers from Bangladesh

The Oman government has assured to legalize 96,000 illegal Bangladeshi workers. 

At the same time, the country has offered to take workers from Bangladesh in 12 categories.

State Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Employment Shofiqur Rahman Choudhury said this while talking to reporters at his office on Tuesday.

The state minister recently visited Dubai, Oman and Qatar to discuss the labour market issue. 

"There are 96,000 Bangladeshi workers living in Oman illegally. The Omani government has promised to legalize them. We have also requested them to waive the penalty for the illegal Bangladeshi workers,” he said. 

Regarding the labour market of the United Arab Emirates, the state minister said that a meeting has been held with Dubai businessmen to make the labour market more dynamic. 

Dubai has already requested 3,000 workers. A total of 400 workers have left the country, and 500 are awaiting their departure, he added.
