Manzoor Hasan, the executive director of the Centre for Peace and Justice, Brac University (CPJ), has recently been elected as a member of the ActionAid International Board.
In a signed letter, Hellen-Grace Akwii, chairperson of ActionAid International, congratulated Manzoor on his election to the Board, extended a warm welcome and said: “We are thrilled to have you join and contribute your expertise, insights, and invaluable perspective to ActionAid's strategic direction.”
Manzoor said: “I am excited to be on the AAI Board and to have this rare opportunity to interact with the global activities of this progressive organisation, particularly when there are some notable strategic shifts taking place in the various regions of the globe. I am honoured to have been elected by the AAI delegates.”
With an illustrious career spanning over three decades, Manzoor has held numerous prestigious roles and contributed to the establishment of several organizations pivotal in advancing development, governance, and justice in Bangladesh.
He was the founding executive director of Transparency International Bangladesh, regional director (Asia-Pacific) of Transparency International in Berlin, Germany, and deputy executive director of Brac. He played a key role in the establishment of the Brac Institute of Governance and Development in 2005.
He also served as chairperson of the Asia Justice Coalition and ActionAid Bangladesh and as a board member of ActionAid Australia. He previously chaired the UN Convention Against Corruption Coalition.
Manzoor is a published author, having written multiple reports and articles, published across various renowned platforms. His book titled, “The Real Politics of Bangladesh - The Inside Story of Local Power Brokers”, till date, remains one of the best descriptions of Bangladesh’s informal political landscape.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II awarded the Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) to Hasan in 2003 for his contributions to the promotion of transparency in Bangladesh.
