Jahangirnagar University has decided to revoke the academic certificates of non-students, who are still staying in the dormitories even after getting two notices.
The university has asked the students to vacate the halls by April 17.
The decision was taken at a syndicate meeting of the university held on Sunday night with Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Md Nurul Alam in the chair.
Confirming the matter, the university's Registrar Abu Hasan said that according to the decision of the syndicate meeting, the students will have to leave all residential halls by April 17. Otherwise, it has been decided to revoke their certificates.
Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh's only residential public university, is grappling with a housing crisis that goes beyond a mere shortage of beds.
The issue stems from the illegal occupation of halls by former students, many of whom are linked to the powerful student organization Chhatra League, creating an environment of overcrowding and rule-breaking.
