Two modern tugboats named “MT Neelkamal” and “MT Joymoney” have been added to the Mongla port.
Chairman of Port Authority Rear Admiral Shaheen Rahman officially inaugurated these two vessels at 2pm on Thursday.
The two tugboats, built from Hong Kong's Cheoy Lee Shipyard, arrived at the port's Jetty No. 8 on Wednesday afternoon. This tugboat has a maximum capacity of 70 bollard pool power.
The two tugboats were purchased at a cost of Tk174 crore. Earlier, the maximum capacity of tugboats in Mongla port was 40 bollards.
Rear Admiral Shaheen Rahman said: “With the addition of 70 bollard tugboats, it will be possible to move large commercial ships arriving at Mongla port quickly and safely to the port jetty. With this, a new horizon has started in the capacity of Mongla port in overall ship handling.”
