Protesting teachers and students have formed an anti-oppression platform called "Nipironer Biruddhe Jahangirnagar (Jahangirnagar against Repression)" at Jahangirnagar University (JU) to create a movement against all ongoing and past oppression and torture at the university.
They announced the formation of this platform in front of the New Arts Building of the university at 5:30pm on Monday.
Professor of History Anisa Parvin Jolly, one of the organizers of the forum, made the announcement.
She also said that the full committee of this organization will be announced on Tuesday, who will be responsible for leading this movement.
At the same time, she also informed that a human chain and rally in front of the Shaheed Minar of the university will be held at 11am on Tuesday.
It was also said in the press conference that the platform is the movement of all participants of the university.
“We hope that all teachers and students will join this movement. It is the central movement of the university. The purpose of this movement will be to build a movement against all the torture and oppression that happened in Jahangirnagar University. This platform will work in the movement against not only sexual harassment but also university ragging, student torture, forcing non-students for leaving the hall.”
Protests over Saturday’s rape of a housewife at Jahangirnagar University (JU) continued on Monday, with the demand for exemplary punishment of the accused growing.
The prime accused, Mustafizur Rahman, a student of the 45th batch of the International Relations Department and the Chhatra League’s international affairs secretary of the university’s Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall unit, was arrested early on Sunday.
He and three of his accomplices were put on remand later in the day. Two more accused have been on the run.
