State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Simeen Hussain (Rimi) on Thursday directed Bangladesh Shishu Academy authorities to undertake new projects and programs based on the children's needs.

"The government is working to ensure education, nutrition and protection of the children," she said at a view-exchange meeting at the academy.

Secretary of the Women and Children Affairs Ministry Nazma Mobarek was present at the meeting as the special guest with Shishu Academy Chairman Lucky Enam in the chair, said a press release.

Noting that street children should be given proper education and training to ensure a bright future for them, Rimi said both good and bad exist in the world, but children must accept the good one.

"If we can ensure that the children are choosing the right things, only then we will be able to build a prosperous and hunger-free Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, which Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina termed as Smart Bangladesh," she added.

Shishu Academy Director General Anjir Liton presented an overview of the ongoing activities and projects as well as the future plans of the academy.

Additional secretaries of the Women and Children Affairs Ministry Md Muhibuzzaman, Rowsan Ara Begum and Muhammad Wahiduzzaman were present at the meeting, among others.

Later, a cultural event titled 'Uthbo Jege, Chutbo Bege' was presented by child artistes.
