Update : 21 Dec 2023, 07:02 PM

Nurul Haque Nur, former Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) VP and leader of Bangladesh Gono Odhikar Parishad on Thursday said they are going to observe a nationwide blockade on Sunday, and all shops and establishments will have to remain shut.

“Program leaflet distribution will continue for the next three days as part of the non-cooperation movement. An all-out blockade program will be observed across the country on December 24 (Sunday). You all should be prepared for it. Blockade means blockade. Shops will be closed and vehicles cannot ply the roads,” he said.

He made the comments at a protest in front of the National Press Club on Thursday.

"Today, 'kangaroo courts' (an unofficial court held by a group of people) are being used to punish opposition leaders and activists. Until we can establish the rule of law and democracy in the country, we will reject this kangaroo court,” Nur added.

He also claimed that economists and intellectuals of the country have repeatedly said that Bangladesh is heading towards destruction due to “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's stubbornness.”

“But she is not listening. She will retain her power. It doesn't matter if the country goes to hell,” he added.
