Former state minister Dr Murad Hasan was allocated the eagle symbol for the Jamalpur-4 (Sarishabari) constituency in the 12th parliamentary election.
Jamalpur Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Md Shafiur Rahman allocated the election symbols to the candidates on Monday afternoon.
Jamalpur Municipal Councillor Sakhawat Alam Mukul received the symbol on behalf of Murad Hasan.
Dr Murad Hasan is running in the election as an independent candidate as he did not get a nomination from the Awami League.
He said: "I cannot ignore the people's demands. I love them and have always been with them. I am running for the people's choice.
Dr Murad Hassan was first elected as a Member of Parliament for the Jamalpur-4 (Sarishabari) constituency from the Awami League in the 9th national parliamentary elections.
He did not receive the nomination in the 10th parliamentary election because the seat was allocated to the Jatiya Party as part of a political alliance.
In the 11th parliamentary election in 2018, he secured the Awami League ticket again and, after being elected for the second time, served as the state minister for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and later as the state minister for the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Shortly after taking on his duties, Dr Murad Hasan, who became a topic of discussion for various reasons, resigned from his role as state minister and also lost his position within his party.
