Jatiya Party (JaPa) Secretary General Mujibul Haque Chunnu has said his party and the ruling Awami League discussed peaceful elections at Wednesday’s meeting, not the sharing of seats in the upcoming election.

He was speaking at a press conference at the Jatiya Party chairman's office in Banani on Thursday afternoon.

There was a meeting between Awami League and Jatiya Party leaders at a hotel in Gulshan on Wednesday.

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, Presidium Member Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nashim were present on behalf of the Awami League, while two party leaders including Chunnu attended the meeting for the Jatiya Party.

Chunnu said JaPa will contest the election to keep the democratic process moving, hoping for a competitive election with the Awami League. JaPa will participate in the polls with its electoral symbol, plough, not with under alliance, he added.

“The Jatiya Party will win a high number of seats if the polls are fair. If voters turn out, there could be a silent voting revolution like 1991,” he added.
