Khaleda blames government for rise of militancy

Update : 01 May 2016, 02:17 AM
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday blamed the government for the rise of militancy in the country as it shunned the path of systematic politics and rule of law.
The former premier also alleged that the government is influencing the investigation for the recent killings by accusing opposition leaders and activists while the real masterminds remain hidden. Khaleda made the comments while addressing the founding anniversary of Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (Jagpa) at Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh in Dhaka. She said: “Incidents of secret killings and sudden attacks have increased at an alarming rate. Bloggers, university teachers, writers, publishers, foreign citizens, embassy officials and people from different religious communities have been victims of such attacks and killings, and the dreadful thing is that various militant organisations have claimed responsibility for these killings.” “People of the country are now concerned about their security as the government failed to stop the recurring attacks. Moreover, the government claims that there is no involvement of any international terrorist organisation in the attacks but failed to arrest anyone in this regard. Rather, they are blaming the opposition party which is hampering investigation while the real masterminds remain hidden,” she added. Khaleda also said: “There have been discussions going around the country over a US court verdict. What is that case? One Bangladeshi youth bribed an agent of FBI to get some information about the prime minister’s son? In the case document, it was mentioned that 300 million dollars was in an account of the prime minister’s son.” “From where did the money come? What is the source of that money? People of the country wants to know what amount of money have they made in such way?” “The government is silent about this money. Investigation should take place in this regard and the money should be brought back,” Khaleda added. The BNP chief later went on alleging that journalist Shafik Rehman was tortured in remand to conceal this scam. Khaleda said that the incumbent government will not be able to stay in office for long like this. “So, I ask them to resolve the crisis the country faces through discussion. Time is running out fast,” she added.
