  • 68 agencies were selected to register
  • EC opted not to grant registration to REHF
Update : 10 Oct 2023, 10:05 PM

The Movement for Social Justice has been registered as an observer body with the Election Commission after changing its name from the Human Rights Watch Commission.

According to an Election Commission press release on Tuesday, initially, 68 agencies were selected to register as local observer agencies. Complaints were lodged against Rupnagar Education and Health Assistance Foundation (REHF) and Human Rights Watch Commission among these organizations.

The EC then instructed the Human Rights Watch Commission to change its name promptly and initiated an investigation into REHF's allegations.

Later, the Human Rights Watch Commission changed the name of its organization to Movement for Social Justice and submitted revised papers to the Election Commission. The commission then decided to give the agency final registration as the 67th local observer body.

At the same time, the commission decided not to provide registration to REHF as the allegations were found to be true during the investigation.
