United Arab Emirates airline Etihad Airways is going to stop its flight operations to Bangladesh again.
Although there has been no official announcement, the airline said that it will not operate flights from Dhaka from October 29.
According to airline sources, foreign airlines are not able to take money to sell tickets due to the dollar shortage in the country. Moreover, there has been a passenger crisis recently.
Previously, Etihad stopped operating flights from Dhaka on October 1, 2018, after operating in the country for 12 years.
According to the officials, the airline has always opposed complying with the regulations of Bangladesh.
In 2018, the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) introduced a provision to appoint GSAs (General Sales Agents) to operate foreign airlines.
The condition was that the ownership of the GSA institution should be of a Bangladeshi citizen.
Etihad Airways objected to the decision and suspended operations in Bangladesh.
However, in 2020, Etihad Airways applied through the Director General of the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) of the United Arab Emirates to resume flights to Bangladesh.
