A case was filed against Prof Muhammad Yunus and five others with Rangpur Labour Court on Tuesday.
Farukul Islam, an employee of the Grameen Krishi Foundation, filed the case in the court of Judge AKM Fazlul Haque for violation of labour laws and non-payment of Tk975,125.
After a preliminary hearing, the judge scheduled the next hearing for September 26.
The plaintiff's lawyer, Shamim Al Mamun, confirmed the filing of the case.
The other accused in the case are Nurjahan Begum, chairperson of the board of directors of Grameen Krishi Foundation, Shamsud Doha, executive director, and board members Imamus Sultan, Ratan Kumar Nag, and Shahjahan.
In his complaint, Farukul Islam said that he was hired by the Grameen Krishi Foundation as a farm manager in November 1993. After training, he was promoted to senior farm manager, a position recognized as a worker under Section 2 of the labour law.
He then worked in various units of the foundation before joining the Gobindaganj unit in Gaibandha.
On September 19, 2019, the defendant was deceitfully transferred to a non-operational unit in the Birganj area.
At the time of this transfer, an amount of Tk325,000 was outstanding against his name. Later, he applied for a transfer to an active unit but was instead pressured to retire with assurances that all outstanding dues would be paid upon retirement.
Trusting their words, he retired. However, even after several assurances, the due amount of Tk975,125 was not paid.
According to him, the Grameen Krishi Foundation pressured over 1,200 employees to retire in a similar manner, without settling their dues.
