A three-member probe body that was supposed to submit investigation report on Tuesday into the torture of Chhatra League men at Shahbagh police station, requested seven additional working days to complete the investigation.

A member of the investigation committee, requesting anonymity, confirmed the information on Tuesday.

However, it could not be confirmed whether the commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has granted the request for extension of time.

The probe body was initially asked to complete the report in two working days. However, as they failed, they got five more days to submit the report.

On September 9, ADC Harun and some other police officials took the two Chhatra League leaders to Shahbagh police station around 9pm and tortured them for about an hour, Chhatra League leaders alleged.

The duo are Anwar Hossain Nayeem, Chhatra League central organizing secretary and president of the Dhaka University (DU) Fazlul Huq Muslim Hall unit, and Sharif Ahmed Munim, the central science affairs secretary and general secretary of DU Dr Muhammad Shahidullah Hall unit.
