Primary school building collapses due to Padma erosion in Manikganj

  • Over 50 houses at risk of river erosion
  • 12 houses washed away on Monday night

Due to the Padma river erosion, almost half of Mukundia Government Primary School premises, located in Harirampur’s Dhulsura union in Manikganj, have collapsed.

Union Parishad Chairman Jahed Khan said: "About half of the school premises were washed away into the Padma river on Tuesday night. On Monday night, 12 houses were washed away in the Padma river due to erosion. Furthermore, over 50 houses are at risk due to erosion."

Harirampur acting upazila nirbahi officer Tapasi Rabeya said: "The school partially collapsed on Tuesday midnight."

Manikganj Water Development Board Executive Engineer Main Uddin said: “The school partially collapsed at on Tuesday midnight after nearby houses were washed away on Monday night. The board is urgently using geo-tubes, dumping materials with geo bags, and taking effective steps to protect the remaining part of the school amid the ongoing rain.”
