Amir Hossain Amu, member of Awami League's advisory council and coordinator of the 14-party alliance led by the ruling party said there are many political parties and alliances that are communicating with 14-party leaders to participate in the next general polls under the leadership of Awami League President and the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“Many alliances have already declared solidarity with us under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina and are ready to participate in the elections based on the constitution. A meeting of the 58-party alliance was held at the National Press Club,” he said.

He made the comments at a discussion organized by the central 14-party on the occasion of the 48th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Mourning Day at the Diploma Engineers Institution Auditorium in the capital on Friday.

“A series of meetings with several other parties and alliances is scheduled in the upcoming days,” he added.

Addressing BNP, Amu, one of the most senior leaders of Awami League said: “You will not participate in the election, many contested against us in many places, but you did not. You are afraid of elections. Ziaur Rahman never came to power through polls. You can't either.”

Since the landslide defeat in the 2008 general elections, the BNP has been in fear to join any elections, he added.

Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal President Hasanul Haq Inu said: “BNP speaks for Razakars, Jamaat, and war criminals whenever it gets a chance. BNP has not issued a single statement condemning the August 15 killings. They will not even hold a meeting during this month of mourning. Actually, they are supporters of murderers.”

Bangladesh Samyabadi Dal General Secretary Dilip Barua said that the next election should be taken as a challenge.

“In 1971 the world was unicentric but today, the world is not unicentric. Now the world is polycentric. So, we also have many friends. We also have friends with international powers,” said Dilip Barua who is a pro-Chinese political leader.

Awami League Presidium Member Qamrul Islam, Jatiya Party General Secretary Sheikh Shahidul Islam, Rezaur Rashid of Basad, SK Shikder of Gano Azadi League and others also spoke at the program, while Ganatantri Party President Dr Shahadat Hossain moderated the discussion.
