UIU observes National Mourning Day-2023

  • Essay competition, discussion meeting, dua mahfil held 
  • Competition help students reflect on history

United International University observed the National Mourning Day-2023 marking the 48th martyrdom anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. 

The essay competition, discussion meeting and dua mahfil was held at UIU Campus in Dhaka on Tuesday, says a press release.

Prof Dr Md Abul Kashem Mia, vice chancellor (in-charge) of UIU, presided over the discussion meeting while Prof Dr Mohammad Musa, dean - School of Business and Economics, Prof Dr Hamidul Huq, dean - School of Humanities and Social Sciences and director - Bangabandhu Study Centre, Prof Dr Hasan Sarwar, dean- School of Science and Engineering, and Prof Dr Md Abu Saklayen, director -Institute of Natural Sciences (INS) and proctor, delivered their speech.

An essay writing competition was held for UIU students, where participants wrote on the topic "Bangabandhu, Independence, and Smart Bangladesh." 

The competition not only encouraged students to reflect on the historical significance of these themes but also rewarded those with the best essays with prizes and certificates.

UIU Vice Chancellor (In-Charge) Prof Dr Md Abul Kashem Mia said: “We have to work together to build a Sonar Bangla by learning from Bangabandhu's life and ideology. Other speakers highlighted the legacy of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the importance of his leadership in achieving independence and building a smart Bangladesh.” 

Dr Md Zulfiqur Rahman, registrar, acted as the anchor of the programs and Abu Sadat Md Mostansir Billa, director, Public Relations Office (PRO), conducted the dua mahfil at the end of the discussion session.

The treasurer, faculty members, officials and students of the university were also present in the discussion meeting and dua mahfil program.
