Flood situation in the low-lying areas of Chittagong and Bandarban districts may continue improving in the next 24 hours as all the major rivers in the south-eastern hill basin of the country are currently in a falling trend.
The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre in its latest bulletin on Wednesday said water in Muhuri, Feni, Halda, Karnaphali, Sangu, and Matamuhuri Rivers were receding while the Brahmaputra-Jamuna rivers were in a rising trend.
Additionally, the Ganges River was in a rising trend which may continue in the next 48 hours while the Padma River was in a steady state.
Meanwhile, all the major rivers in the North-eastern region of the country are in a rising trend.
According to meteorological agencies, there is a chance of medium to heavy rainfall in the north-eastern and adjacent upstream parts of Bangladesh in next 24-48 hours.
“Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely at many places over Rangpur and Chittagong divisions and at a few places over Rajshahi, Dhaka, Barisal, Mymensingh, Khulna and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy falls at places over the country,” said the morning bulletin of the Met office.
Meanwhile, there was no vehicular movement on the Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway for the second consecutive day yesterday due to severe waterlogging caused by torrential rains for the last few days.
