Incessant rain and landslides have isolated Bandarban from the rest of the country as all modes of communication have been disrupted.

Around 80% of the area of the Sadar upazila is now under water. There is no electricity or mobile internet. There is a shortage of clean water.

Local resident Nazrul Islam said: "We cannot leave the house. The ground floor of my house is underwater. I stayed on the second floor with my family. Many people have stayed with their families. Many shelters have been submerged. Many have been taken to shelters.

"There is no internet and network available in the area. We can not reach anyone to check on us. We are completely isolated.” he added.

The flood situation has been created due to continuous rain. From Sunday night, the power of the city has been shattered. It has made public life miserable. Heavy rains have also raised fears of landslides. The Sangu River is flowing above the danger mark.

Bandarban Power Division worker Abu Taher Rana said: “The Chittagong’s Dohazari sub-station has been out of power since Sunday night. There is no electricity anywhere in the city. I don’t even know when the electricity will be back.”

Bandarban Deputy Commissioner Shah Mojaheed Uddin said: "Bandarban has been witnessing a record amount of rainfall. As many as 192 shelters have been opened in the district. Adequate food and clean feet have been provided for the people who have taken shelter. In addition, adequate medical supplies are available, including keeping a medical team ready to ensure health care.”
