The Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has filed a case against Nurul Haque Nur, president of a faction of Gono Odhikar Parishad, for inappropriate conduct with the police and hindrance in government work.

Speaking to journalists at the DB headquarters on Thursday, DB chief Additional Police Commissioner Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid said after identifying themselves, police officers expected assistance from Nur, but instead he went live on Facebook and used various derogatory words against the police.

“It is the responsibility of all citizens to assist the police. We did not expect this type of behaviour from Nur, as a leader and as a meritorious student of Dhaka University,” he remarked.

"Even after what he did, we treated him well. And we detained our intended accused from his room. We did nothing outside the law," Harun said.

"Because he abused the police on Facebook Live, behaved poorly and obstructed government work, we consider this a legal offence. Hence, a case has been filed against him," he added.

Hatirjheel police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Awlad Hossain said the case was filed against Nur on Wednesday night on charges of obstructing police work and misconduct.

Early on Wednesday, DB officers conducted a raid on Nur’s house and picked up Chhatra Odhikar Parishad President Md Bin Yamin Mollah from there.

Nur on a Facebook live stream said police broke down the door of his home and picked up Chhatra Odhikar Parishad President Bin Yamin Mollah.

Police seized CCTV cameras and mobile phones from his house, Nur alleged.
