The Dhaka Metropolitan Police has refused to give permission to the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami to hold a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on Friday.
The party had applied for permission two days in advance to hold the rally organized by Dhaka North and South units of the party.
When asked if Jamaat would be granted permission for the Friday rally, DMP Commissioner Khandaker Golam Faruq told journalists on Thursday afternoon: "No, we are not giving it."
Previously, on July 24, Jamaat announced its plan to hold a rally on Tuesday at the north gate of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque to advocate for its three-point demand, which included holding the next general national election under a caretaker government.
However, due to not getting police permission, the rally was called off to avoid any conflict.
On the same day, Nurul Islam Bulbul, ameer of Jamaat's Dhaka South unit, announced that they would hold the rally in the capital on Friday.
Jamaat last organized a rally with police permission on June 10 at the capital's Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB).
