425 arrested as DMP steps up capital-wide raids

Police file 57 cases during 24-hour operation across all divisions of the capital, seizing drugs, weapons and cash

Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested 425 people in a series of coordinated drives across the capital over the past 24 hours, as authorities intensified a citywide crackdown on crime, narcotics and other offences.

Police also filed 57 cases during the operation, according to Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Niaz Mehedi.

The largest number of arrests was made in Mirpur Division, where 88 people were detained.

The operation also saw 61 arrests in Wari, 57 in Motijheel, 56 in Tejgaon, 55 in Gulshan, 43 in Uttara, 39 in Ramna, 24 in Lalbagh and two by the Detective Branch (DB).

During the drives, police recovered 1.077kg of cannabis, 6,025 yaba tablets and 3g of heroin, along with several weapons and other items.

The seized items included three machetes, two daggers, one axe, one switchblade knife and one shovel, as well as a three-wheeler (mishuk), nine mobile phones, a hookah pipe, a dice board, Tk610 in cash and one rescued victim.

Police said the operations were part of their ongoing efforts to curb crime and maintain law and order across the capital.
