Newly elected Dhaka-17 MP Mohammad Arafat sworn in

Mohammad Ali Arafat, the newly elected member of parliament (MP) for the Dhaka-17 constituency, has taken his oath.

Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury administered the swearing-in ceremony at the Oath Room of the Parliament Complex on Wednesday afternoon.

The oath-taking ceremony was conducted by Senior Secretary to the Parliament Secretariat KM Abdus Salam.

Notably present at the event were Chief Whip Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury, Whip Iqbalur Rahim and Awami League Office Secretary Biplob Barua.

Upon completion of the swearing-in, Mohammed Ali Arafat signed the oath book as per tradition.

The Dhaka-17 constituency, consisting of Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara, and a portion of the Dhaka Cantonment, fell vacant following the death of actor and AL MP Akbar Hossain Pathan Farooque.

The Election Commission, on June 1, announced the by-election for the Dhaka-17 seat to be held on July 17.

After the votes were counted on July 17, Awami League candidate Mohammad Ali Arafat was unofficially declared the winner of the Dhaka-17 seat, securing a total of 28,816 votes.
