Update : 17 Feb 2026, 02:27 PM

Six newly elected MPs from the National Citizen Party (NCP) were sworn in as members of parliament on Tuesday.

The oath-taking ceremony was held at the National Parliament and administered by AMM Nasir Uddin, the chief election commissioner (CEC).

For the first time in the country’s history, a chief election commissioner administered the oath to newly elected MPs.

Earlier, around 10:40am, the CEC administered oaths to members of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, including party chairman Tarique Rahman. However, BNP members did not take the oath as members of the Constitution Reform Commission.

Afterwards, leaders of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami arrived at the oath hall. The elected MPs, including party Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman, took their oaths.

In the third phase, NCP leaders took their oaths. Nahid Islam, Akhtar Hossain, Hasnat Abdullah, Abdul Hannan Masud, Abdullah Al Amin, and Atikur Rahman Mojahid were sworn in as MPs.
