An eight-month pregnant government official, identified as SM Nazia Sultana, who served as the senior assistant secretary (WTO Wing) at the Ministry of Commerce died of dengue on Tuesday morning.
She died while undergoing treatment at the Bangladesh Institute of Research and Rehabilitation in Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders (Birdem).
She was admitted to the hospital two days ago.
Tipu Munshi and Tapan Kanti Ghosh have expressed deep shock and sorrow over the death of M Nazia Sultana. They prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
In a condolence message to the bereaved family members, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said: "Nazia Sultana was an exceptionally talented and intelligent officer."
The commerce minister praised the late Nazia Sultana's dedicated service during her tenure as an upazila nirbahi officer, emphasizing her honesty and commitment.
"We have lost an honest and worthy official," he added.
Senior Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh also offered his condolences, saying: “Nazia Sultana was a skilled and responsible officer whose contributions to the Bangladesh Civil Service will be remembered.”
She was from the 30th BCS batch.
Dengue has taken a serious turn in Bangladesh in the current year.
At least nine deaths were reported from dengue in 24 hours till Monday morning, raising the number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease to 185 this year.
Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has recorded 35, 270 dengue cases, and 27,622 recoveries.
