Six dengue patients die, 788 cases detected in 24hrs

Since the start of the dengue onslaught in Bangladesh this year witnessed so far 349 deaths

Health officials on Wednesday said they recorded 788 fresh cases of dengue outbreaks, killing at least six persons in the past 24 hours.

"We recorded deaths of six dengue patients in 24 hours ending at 8am today (Wednesday)," a spokesman of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said, adding his office simultaneously recorded 788 fresh cases of dengue outbreaks during the same period.

According to the DGHS statistics, two died in areas with the purview of Dhaka North City Corporation, one in Dhaka South City Corporation (DNCC) and three in the Rajshahi division.

"Out of the 788 fresh cases, 87 patients were hospitalized in Barisal division, 108 in Chittagong division, 130 in Dhaka division excluding the capital, 86 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and 166 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas, 66 in Khulna division, 54 in Mymensingh division, 88 in Rajshahi division and three in Sylhet division, a Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) statement said.

Since the start of the dengue onslaught in Bangladesh this year witnessed so far 349 deaths while the disease has inflicted 87,712.

The dengue last year claimed 575 lives and afflicted 1,01,214 people in the country.
