Update : 24 Jul 2023, 05:46 PM

The case filed by film star Pori Moni on charges of attempted rape and murder against businessman and former president of Uttara Club Ltd Nasir Uddin Mahmood and Tuhin Siddique Omi will be tried through a camera trial.

Pori Moni's lawyer Nilanjana Rifat confirmed it on Monday.

Usually, a public trial conducts the entire judicial process in an open court or tribunal, where anyone can enter.

The term camera trial refers to a particular case being investigated or tried at any stage in a private chamber or closed-door room at the judge's discretion. No one else can enter or stay there without the court's permission.

On Monday, Pori Moni appeared in the court of Judge Shahina Haque Siddiqui of the Dhaka Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal-9 and testified.

At one point during her testimony, Pori Moni told the court that she did not want to disclose certain aspects of the incident.

The judge then asked if she wished to proceed with a camera trial, after which her lawyer applied for the same.

The court approved the application and set the date for the camera trial for September 13, when the case will be tried.

On June 14, 2021, actor Pori Moni filed a case with Savar police station against businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmood and his friend Tuhin Siddique Omi, alleging attempted rape and murder, with four unknown accomplices.

The investigation officer, Inspector Kamal Hossain of Savar police station, submitted a chargesheet against three persons, including Nasir, to the court on September 6 of that year.

The chargesheet was accepted by Judge Md Hemayet Uddin of the Dhaka Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal-9 in December.

On May 18, this year, the court ordered the commencement of the trial through the formation of charges against the accused.
