Asian University for Women (AUW), a leading women's higher education institution, in partnership with Middlebury College, US, has initiated the AUW Middlebury English Immersion program.

This seven-week program, which started on June 25, is designed to accelerate English learning, thus enabling students to substantially improve their language proficiency, said a press release issued on Thursday.

The program aimed to provide AUW students a fun-filled learning experience from the best in the field.

This seven-week program would end on August 10.

Director of the Pre-Undergraduate Program at AUW Matthew Glotfelter stated: "This is such a special opportunity for our students to benefit from face-to-face education with American experts in the field of language teaching."

Alicia Brent, senior director of Executive and Custom Programs at Middlebury, said: “We are so excited to be partnering with AUW on this very important project. Our two institutions share the belief that by inspiring our students, they will go on to inspire others. Our hope is to provide these talented women with the skills and confidence to make a difference not only in their communities but also in the world.”

The experienced English language teachers, three of whom are, in fact, alumni of the Middlebury's well-known Master's program in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), are all eager to work with these remarkable young women.

Lead instructor, Dr Lisa Russell-Pinson, professor of writing at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte, noted: "I was drawn to teach in the AUW Middlebury program because I strongly believe in AUW's mission. AUW provides superb educational opportunities to a diverse group of talented women, and it's exciting to know how much their experiences at AUW will transform their lives."

The intensive program will build students' academic reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills through content-focused instruction, preparing them for entry into AUW's rigorous undergraduate program.

Besides, included in the seven-week English immersion program are extracurricular activities designed to complement the academic program. These activities are cooperatively led by current MIIS student, Kari Naumova, and current AUW student, Aysha Farid.
