Dhaka’s rail link restored after 5 hours as workers withdraw blockade

There has been a major disruption in the train schedule for departures from Dhaka to various destinations

Rail communication between Dhaka and other parts of the country resumed on Sunday afternoon after five hours of suspension due to blockade on rail tracks by a section of temporary workers of the Bangladesh Railway near Karwan Bazar in Dhaka.

The workers under the banner of Bangladesh Railway Temporary Workers stopped the movement of Titas commuter train by putting barricades on the rail tracks at the FDC Railgate area of Karwan Bazar this morning.

The railway workers said they are demanding to make the job of temporary workers permanent, regularization of jobs, cancellation of outsourcing practices and the amendment to the recruitment rules 2020.

The blockade was withdrawn after five hours around 3pm, Ferdous Ahmed Bishwas, officer-in-charge of Kamalapur Railway police sation, said.

There has been a major disruption in the train schedule for departures from Dhaka to various destinations in the country since the blockade began, causing sufferings to hundreds of passengers.
