Journalist Nadim murder: One of Babu's associates Aslam arrested

So far, 17 people have been arrested in connection with the murder of journalist Nadim

One of the aides of the sacked UP chairman Mahmudul Alam Babu, the main accused in the murder case of journalist Golam Rabbani Nadim, has been arrested by the Bakshiganj police station in Jamalpur on Wednesday.

The arrestee is Aslam Mia, 35, son of Bhulo Mia of Batti area in Sadhurpara union.

The police arrested him from the border area of Roumari upazila of Kurigram district in the afternoon.

Bakshiganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sohel Rana confirmed the matter and said that a person named Noyon Mia was arrested on July 3 in connection with the murder of journalist Nadim.

After the arrest of Noyon Mia, the police found the involvement of Aslam Mia in Nadim's murder through his confession on remand and the statement of witnesses.

So far, 17 people have been arrested in connection with the murder of journalist Nadim, the OC added.

Monira Begum, wife of the slain journalist Nadim, claims that although 17 people have been arrested, only five out of the 22 named accused in the case have been arrested.

She demanded that all the accused be arrested and brought to justice.

Nadim, who had been seriously injured in an attack allegedly by some supporters of Babu in the Pathati area of Bokshiganj upazila on June 14, died at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital the next day.

He was the Jamalpur correspondent for and a Bokshiganj upazila correspondent for Ekattor Television. He was also a member of the Jamalpur Press Club.

A case was lodged against 47 people naming now-suspended Sadhurpara union parishad (UP) chairman Mahmudul Alam Babu as the key accused in connection with Nadim's murder.
