Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra singer Bulbul Mahalanobis passed away early Friday.
She had been suffering from a number of health issues for a while.
The versatile singer and writer was a well-known performer at the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra during the 1971 Liberation War, where she also portrayed the title role in Kalyan Mitra's wildly successful episodic radio play "Jallader Darbar."
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of the Bulbul Mahalanobis, one of the artists who had given voice to the timeless song “Bijoy Nishan Urche Oi” at the historic moment of Bangladesh's victory in the Liberation War.
Bulbul was one of the leading personalities of the country's cultural movement; she served as vice president of Nazrul Sangeet Shilpi Parishad and editor of Rabindra Academy.
She also held important responsibilities in many cultural and social organizations including Jatiya Kabita Parishad, Kochi Kachar Mela, Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigoshthi, Sector Commanders Forum and Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra Shilpi Parishad.
