A woman surrendered to police after hacking her husband to death over getting beaten by him for dowry.
The incident took place on Rayerbagh Sadiq Khan Road in Mohammadpur police station area of the capital early Thursday.
Banu Begum, 31, dialled 999 and reported the incident of hacking her husband Md Shahin Mia, 40, said National Emergency Service 999 Police Inspector (Public Relations) Anwar Sattar.
He said that the woman called and informed that she had killed her husband with a sharp weapon and wanted to surrender to police.
Constable Tanveer, who is in charge of emergency services, received the call and after hearing the incident immediately reported the matter to Mohammadpur police station and said to take quick action.
Mohammadpur police went to the spot and recovered Shamim Mia's body after receiving the information.
The police inspector also said that Banu Begum, who was arrested during the initial interrogation, said that she is the second wife of deceased Shamim Mia. There was marital discord between them. Her husband often beat her for dowry. In the end, she was frustrated with her husband and committed the murder.
Mohammadpur police station duty officer (SI) Md Kamrul Islam said the body has been sent to Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. The case is under process in this incident.
