A woman died while undergoing leg surgery at Ibn Sina Medical College Hospital in the capital's Kalyanpur on Wednesday.

The deceased is Puravi Ghosh, 58.

The hospital authorities have formed a committee of four members to investigate the incident.

Soumitro Ghosh Emon, son of the deceased, complained of negligence in treatment and said that on June 10, his mother's leg suffered multiple cracks after falling in the bathroom.

On June 13, Puravi's leg was operated on at Ibn Sina Hospital in Kalyanpur. A day after the operation she was getting lethargic.

“The hospital authorities did not take any measures for proper treatment. Even as her condition worsened yesterday (Tuesday), the doctors on duty were trying to reassure us in various ways. Even after telling them repeatedly, they were not paying attention. My mother died in the hospital this (Wednesday) morning,” Emon added.

Emon also said that Dr Shahidur Rahman had operated on his mother. He is a doctor in the orthopaedic department of the hospital.

Dr Shahidur Rahman referred Puravi to the medicine department when her condition worsened. There, the doctors realized the deterioration of the condition and sent her to the neuroscience department. After that, she was left with a nasal tube without any treatment.
