Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) is currently engaged in efforts to arrest Union Parishad Chairman Mahmudul Alam Babu's son Fahim Faisal Rifat, for his involvement in journalist Golam Rabbani Nadim's murder.
During initial questioning, Chairman Babu acknowledged that his son Rifat was present during the incident.
The information was disclosed by RAB spokesperson Commander Khandaker Al Moin during a press conference held at RAB's media center in Kawran Bazar on Saturday evening.
Commander Moin said: "Rifat is the second accused in this murder case. We are making efforts to arrest Rifat as well."
Regarding the number of attackers involved in the assault, the head of RAB's media wing mentioned: "The case files say 22 individuals. However, we have identified 10 to 12 people from the CCTV footage. The situation may become clearer once all the accused have been apprehended. Further details will be revealed by the investigating police officer."
Journalist Nadim had appealed for his personal safety through a Facebook Live video. Commander Moin addressed the question of motive, stating: "The victim journalist publicly sought safety on Facebook Live. The local police are better equipped to shed light on this matter. However, he did not file a complaint with us, which could have prompted swift action."
Earlier, three individuals, including Babu, were apprehended in Debiganj, Panchagarh. Later in the afternoon, RAB reported the arrest of another assailant, Rezaul Karim, in Bogra.
Additionally, Commander Moin disclosed the arrest of Rezaul Karim, who was responsible for pushing Nadim off his moving motorcycle. The arrest took place in Bogra on Saturday afternoon.
He confirmed that the accused, including the mastermind behind Nadim's murder, UP Chairman Babu, have provided information regarding their involvement in the crime.
