The Local Government Division has suspended Shadurpara UP Chairman Mahmudul Alam Babu in connection with the widely-discussed murder of journalist Golam Rabbani Nadim, a district correspondent of Banglanews24.com, in Jamalpur.
The announcement came from a press release sent out by the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives on Monday.
According to the release, signed by Local Government and Rural Development Minister Md Tajul Islam, the Local Government Division has decided to issue a notice, asking for a justification as to why he should not be permanently dismissed due to his involvement in the Nadim murder case.
UP Chairman Mahmudul Alam Babu has been instructed to respond within 10 working days of receiving the notice.
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Mahmudul Alam Babu from Panchagarh on Saturday.
On the same day, during a press conference, RAB revealed Babu's involvement in Golam Rabbani Nadim's murder case.
The suspended union parishad chairman is currently in jail custody.
