Bangladesh is witnessing a spike in Covid-19 cases as the health authorities reported 159 new cases in 24 hours till Monday evening.
Monday marks the highest daily count since November 3 last year when 140 cases were reported in a single day.
According to the press release of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the daily case test positivity rate rose to 5.13%.
However, no deaths were recorded during this time.
The number of cases began to rise from Saturday when the health authorities reported 61 cases.
The number continued to rise on Sunday as Bangladesh logged 73 cases.
The death toll stands at 29,446 while the total number of confirmed cases has reached 2,039,130.
Additionally, 21 individuals have recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,006,233.
In the past 24 hours, 3,990 samples were collected for testing, including antigen tests.
The overall detection rate now stands at 13.22% while the mortality rate is 1.44%.
