Five members of a family sustained burn injuries after the gas cylinder exploded in Chandpur's Matla area on Tuesday night.
The injured are Kamrul Hossain, 45, his wife Rahima 35, daughter Fahima 20, Fariha 12 and Kamrul's nephew Sajeeb, 19, suffered burn injuries when he came to put out the fire from the neighboring house.
Locals said Kamrul's wife Rahima was heating food in the kitchen on a cylinder gas stove. At that time, the cylinder exploded with a loud noise and the whole house caught fire. Within some time, the house was burnt down along with the goods.
On information, the fire service went to the spot to put out the fire. With the help of locals, the injured were rescued and taken to Chandpur 250-bed Government General Hospital. However, seeing their condition as serious, the duty doctors sent them to Dhaka.
Matlab Dakshin Upazila Fire Service Division Station Chief Asaduzzaman said: "After receiving the news, we quickly reached the spot and brought the fire under control. Burnt people were rescued and sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.”
Kamrul's cousin Sajjad Hossain said that among the five people who were burnt, Rahima's condition is very serious. The condition of others are critical.
Meanwhile, on May 24, Chairman of Upazila Parishad and General Secretary of Upazila Awami League BHM Kabir Ahmed, Upazila Executive Officer Renu Das visited the accident site. At this time, financial assistance of Tk15,000 was given to the victims.
