Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun has asked the River Police to perform its duties with more professionalism to ensure the security of waterways and the conservation of fish.
“The River Police has already earned the trust of passengers, waterways transport owners and common people in a short time,” he said while exchanging views with River Police officers at its headquarters in Dhaka on Tuesday.
The police chief said the River Police has to work better to meet the expectations of the prime minister, for which she formed it, adding: “Through good work, we have to break our records of good work.”
River Police chief Additional IGP Md Shafiqul Islam chaired the meeting. Besides, officers-in-charge of different police stations and outposts of the River Police joined the meeting virtually.
“With united efforts, we have successfully brought militancy and terrorism under control as the prime minister declared a zero-tolerance policy against militancy and terrorism,” the IGP said.
He said the people's expectation of the police has increased, so the police have to gain their trust by providing services as per their expectations.
“Every policeman should strive to ensure that people are not subjected to any form of harassment for availing services. Overall, the police are doing a good job. In the past, about 90% of cases without any clues were not solved, but now about 95% of such cases are being cracked,” Mamun added.
The IGP warned police personnel that they will not be spared if they are corrupt or addicted to drugs.
“The Bangladesh Police will not take responsibility for any policeman's criminal acts,” he stated.
Later, the IGP visited the Bangabandhu Corner set up at the River Police headquarters.
