Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Commissioner Dr Mozammel Haque Khan said that letters have been issued to seven countries requesting information of the assets of ex-police officer Pradeep Kumar Das, who is in prison after being convicted of corruption and murder of an ex-army officer.
He told this to reporters during an event organized by Satata Sangha at Chittagong port's Shahid Mohammed Fazlur Rahman Munshi Auditorium on Monday afternoon.
The ACC commissioner said: "The court has already given a verdict against OC Pradeep."
“Additional cases are being investigated. In quest of wealth targets, we communicated with seven different countries,” he added.
When asked if any assets had been discovered abroad, he said: "We have sent letters seeking cooperation from various countries. We shall push once again. If someone is laundering money or smuggling money abroad, it is our regular responsibility to track them down and return them to the country. We will use any strategy in this circumstance.”
When asked whether any additional policemen were being investigated, he said: "ACC does not conduct any investigation targeting members of special professions. Apart from investigating government servicemen, we also investigate and prosecute ordinary citizens who acquire wealth through corruption. ACC does not conduct investigations based on specific class or occupation.”
The ACC Commissioner Mozammel Haque Khan further said that there was no opportunity to compromise on corruption of bureaucrats, adding: "We investigate and file cases against employees. Aside from that, we investigate and prosecute those who acquire illegal assets, including businessmen. As a result, there is no room for making explicit compromises to bureaucrats.”
