BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s brother Shamim Iskander and his wife, Kaniz Fatema, have been exempted from a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on charges of concealing asset information.

On Tuesday, Judge Md Kabir Uddin Pramanik of Dhaka’s Special Judge Court-9 issued the order.

Bench Assistant Saiful Islam Mithu confirmed the information, stating that the case was scheduled for charge framing on Tuesday.

The defence counsel submitted an application seeking exemption for the accused, while the prosecution opposed it.

Following a hearing from both parties, the court granted their exemption from the charges.

During the hearing, Shamim Iskander and his wife were present in court.

In 2007, the ACC issued a notice to Shamim Iskander, requesting details of his assets.

However, as he allegedly concealed asset information following the notice, the ACC, after conducting an investigation, decided to file a case.

Subsequently, in 2008, the commission lodged the case at Ramna police station.
