State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman hsa said no severe damage has been reported so far due to the influence of Cyclone Mocha.
The state minister said these in a press briefing on cyclone Mocha in his office at the secretariat on Sunday.
Highlighting the latest situation of the cyclone, the state minister said: "From 6am, the front part of the cyclone started to cross the coast of Cox's Bazar, Teknaf, St Martins' Island and Myanmar. In the afternoon, it crossed the coast and moved towards Myanmar. Since the low tide has started since morning, there is no big threat of high tide, the tide level is also tolerable."
He said: "The storm has weakened so far and is crossing Bangladesh and Myanmar. However, the storm speed is still 200km/h to 215km/h within 78km of the centre of the storm. If the centre crosses the coast at this speed, there will be some damage".
The state minister said that no damage was reported.
He also said: "All the preparations for Cyclone Mocha have been made.8,500 people have taken shelter in 37 shelters in Saint Martin. Apart from this, more than 2,00,000 in 576 centres in Cox's Bazar, 1,000 in Chittagong. 5,00,000 people have taken shelter in 24 shelters. People from Kutubdia, Maheshkhali, Sandwip, and Subarnachar have also been evacuated safely".
